\u201cSwing your naginata as if you were cutting through the earth itself.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n She is ninety years old, and yet she still comes to practice every week. Her back is bent, but she swings the naginata with no difficulty at all. What amazes me even more is how she moves through the station\u2014ascending and descending between the platform and the upper floors with a speed that would put many younger people to shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the world of naginata, scenes like this are not unusual. Strength alone could never accomplish it.
Intention or willpower cannot accomplish it either.
All you can do is lower the blade with a quiet mind, breathing steadily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hold only that pure, unwavering thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breath, I suspect, is the key.
